Athens Storytelling Festival

Many of our students were given the opportunity to attend a special performance at the 2nd Annual Athens Storytelling Festival in downtown Athens on Wednesday, October 29. Senator Tom Butler, Representative Henry White, and Representative Mac McCutcheon funded the cost of our students to attend the festival and hear four nationally renowned storytellers demonstrate the art of storytelling.

Carmen Deedy, Andy Offutt Irwin, Lyn Ford and Bil Lepp performed on a raised stage under a circus-type tent set up in front of the Limestone County Courthouse.

The storytellers used eye contact, their voices, movements, and expressions to bring their stories to life in listeners’ minds and hearts.

Lyn Ford, award-winning storyteller and author, graciously came to ABS to perform her storytelling magic for Kg. through 2nd grades.

Included in the Festival weekend was master storyteller Kathryn Tucker Windham, author of twenty-four books, playwright, accomplished photographer, and popular public television and radio personality.
