Coach Bill Murrell was Inducted into 2nd Hall of Fame

Hall of Famer and coaching legend, Bill Murrell did it again.  On Friday, January 16, 2015, Coach Murrell was inducted into the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association (ALABCA) Hall of Fame.  This will be Coach’s 2nd induction into an Alabama hall of fame within the last 5 years.  He was inducted to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in April of 2011.  Coach Murrell has been coaching baseball at Athens Bible School for 40 years.  In that time, his baseball teams have won 1 state championship and 6 runner-up trophies.

While these are impressive accomplishments, Coach (or Poach to his grandchildren), is quick to divert attention from himself.  After being honored during our morning assembly, he said, “No coach is successful without the support, encouragement, and help of his administrators and the faculty he works with, the families he works for and players that he leads.  Success is always the production of a team effort.”

Through the years, Coach Murrell has accomplished much more than trophies and championships.  He has been heavily influential in the shaping of young men’s hearts to become servants and leaders for Christ.  His work at Athens Bible School has left a legacy of champions on and off the field.  We are very grateful for the work of him and his energetic wife, Burnetta.  Once again…congratulations Coach!
