President's Corner

from the desk of Dr. Joseph P. Olson

JPOlson1a

Our 65th year of operation has begun. What does this mean to the children, the teachers, and the community? It means many things to each of us; however, I see the influence Athens Bible School has had on so many. Good schools have influence with students that sometimes does not emerge until decades later. Graduates influence the community and areas in which they reside. Memories are powerful motivators. How many actions are influenced by lessons taught years before, or by examples that a child has observed?

There has been a steady stream of great people who have been a part of ABS through the years - boards of directors, administrators, faculty, staff and volunteers. These may not be considered great by the world's standard, but their greatness lies in the fact that they have helped direct a child's path. These wonderful people have done so through sacrifice and dedication. I cannot estimate how many good mothers and fathers there are because of  the efforts made by these good people. I cannot know how many good Christians there are due to the influence of faithful men and women. So, what can we do to continue? Continue to pray for God's blessings.

Become a volunteer. Donate to Athens Bible School. Support our fundraising efforts. Tell others about our school. Send your children to us. These are all things we can do to make sure the dreams of the very first administration continues - to give the children in this area a chance for an excellent education while able to study the Bible and learn of God's will for all of us. We ask for your prayers as we work to do this.

How can you help ABS in a financial manner? One of the long-term goals of the Board of Directors is to secure the financial future of the school. To do this we must find methods of supplementing our yearly budget. This can be done in several ways:

          1. Cash donations
          2. Stocks and bonds
          3. Land or property
          4. Beneficiary gifts from wills
          5. Insurance beneficiary

All gifts and donations are tax deductible.

One of the more interesting giving concepts is the Charitable Remainder Trust. Several conditions must be met, but it is possible to have an income and to donate to the school and still leave your children the value of the trust. If you are interested in both the school and your heirs receiving a substantial gift at your passing, please contact Dr. Olson at 232.5478.

We invite you to visit Athens Bible School when you can. If you would like information about our school, please write us at 507 South Hoffman Street, Athens, AL 35611, or call the main office at 256.232.3525.
