Miss Robinson's Fourth Grade Class (2006-2007)
Miss Robinson used the H.A.S.P. (Hands-on Activity Science Program) unit to introduce students to the properties and uses of electricity through hands-on explorations of wires, batteries, bulbs, and switches. Students learned about the function of key components of electrical systems (circuits, diodes, and insulation). They learned to wire a simple circuit, construct a circuit tester, build a simple switch, and read a circuit diagram. They applied troubleshooting strategies to make an incomplete circuit complete.
In culminating activities, the students applied what they had learned to design and build a flashlight.
