Plans for the Future Growth of Athens Bible School

newschool-3b

The Athens Bible School administration plans to build a new school on a 40-acre site on US Highway 31 just north of town and south of the Athens Sportsplex. The school is outgrowing its campus at Forrest and East Washington Streets.

Groundbreaking activities took place on December 18, 2007, with city officials and school board members, school officials, students, and future students taking part. The target date for the new school complex is 2020. The cost of the project is estimated to be $12 million, which will come from various fundraisers and donations.

The existing buildings of Athens Bible School were built over 50 years ago. Dr. Joseph Olson, principal, says ABS needs more than 30 acres for accreditation; the present campus is only about 9 acres.

Site work on the property, which includes roads, parking lots, and two soccer fields, has begun. The first phase will take a year to complete.

The second phase will include a baseball field, softball field, and youth fields.

Phase three consists of the new school building.
